The military council’s checkpoint at the toll gate on Thaton – Hpa-an road near Kyarpan village in Mon State’s Thaton Township was attacked around at 11 am on October 17, the locals told Than Lwin Times.
The combined force of Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and Thaton PDF forces attacked the joint checkpoint, which was guarded by the regime forces and junta’s departmental staff.
At least three soldiers were injured in the exchange of fire that lasted for almost 20 minutes, the sources said.
After the attack, light infantry battalion 206 fired at least 20 artillery shells indiscriminately.
The road was blocked Thaton- Hpa-an road for one hour as a result of the attack while security forces inspected passers-by.
The injured troops were transported to the Thaton Hospital by social rescue teams.
On September, the KNLA attacked the regime’s Kyarpan joint-checkpoint with 40 mm mortar shells, leaving some soldiers injured.
