Nearly 20 locals arrested in Dawei for alleged support of PDFs

Nearly 20 people including business owner and CDM police were arrested in Dawei District, Tanintharyi Region, according to the locals.

Oil shop owner U Khin Maung Thein and wife Daw Aye Aye Mar, their nephew Ko Thein Thein Zaw from Kaukmetaung village, Mytta Township and CDM police Thet Paing Soe from Dawei Police Station were all detained on April 4.

Also arrested were Ko Aung Thu Hein, Ko Wei Yan Kyaw, Ko Min Aung, and Ko Aung Aung from Pandale and Laung Lone villages in Laung Lone Township.



On the 5th and 6th of April, Ko Aung Soe Oo and five other were detained at the Byaw Taw Wa checkpoint and the Myaw Kin bridge in Dawei.

On April 7, Tanintharyi Journal’s former columnist Ko Aung Lwin and four locals were detained near Myaw Kin bridge.

All of them were arrested on allegations that were linked to the PDFs and supported them.

At Dawei Police Station, Mytta Police Station, Kyaukmetaung Police Station, and Laung Lone Police Station, the captives are interrogated.

Following the military takeover, more over 1,000 people have been arrested in Tanintharyi.
