Some weapons are needed to further implement military strategies and plans, said National Unity Government (NUG) Defense Minister U Yee Mon as he submitted his annual report to the fourth session of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw.

Despite significant success in the implementation of military strategy and planning, he emphasized that some weapons were still required, and allies were striving to meet the requirement.

“I would like to submit that the NUG and the Ministry of Defense are working with our allies to supply these weapons. Now, 2022, is a very important year for the people’s revolution. This year, PDFs and allies have reached an important stage of revolution and we will keep working hard to achieve our goals,” said U Yee Mon.

In addition, the NUG Defense Minister has formed more than 250 allied battalions nationwide with the People’s Defense Force (PDF). The 101st Battalion has been verified and preparations are underway to gain more control over the area, he reported.

However, when the People’s Resistance War began seven months ago, only six well-organized PDF battalions were able to equipped with arms. At the moment, factory-made weapons are available for PDFs as a minimum requirement, according to Defense Minister U Yee Mon.

The NUG Defense Ministry has so far spent $ 34 million on military, of which 85 percent is spent on armaments.
