Mawlamyine, April (22)
On April 21, a ‘blue-shirt campaign’ was launched across the country to release all political prisoners on the 8th anniversary of the death of former political prisoner Hantharwady U Win Tin.
Blue-shirt campaign is wearing a blue prison shirt, which Hantharwady U Win Tin wore until his death, to demand the release of all political prisoners and to show solidarity with them.
During the campaign, people took to the streets to protest against the military dictatorship, with Hantharwady U Win Tin’s saying, ‘There are no benefits from military dictatorships.’ Some others even wore blue shirts at home to support the campaign.
Some foreign embassies in Myanmar joined the movement to free all political detainees, including State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint.
More than 13,000 people have been detained in Myanmar since the military takeover, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).
