Two local civilians were sentenced to life in prison on charges of involvement in the bombing of an administrator’s residence in Tanintharyi Region’s Thaukkya Pyin village, Launglon Township, according to the Dawei Political Prisoners Network (DPPN).


On April 26, a court in Dawei Jail sentenced U Saw Shwe and Ko Soe Min Htwe, both from Thaukkyar Pyin village, to life in prison.


They were sentenced to the maximum sentences under Section 3 for the bombing and Section 54 for terrorism of criminal code.


On September 21, a bomb exploded at the home of U Tun Min, the administrator of the Thaukkya Pyin village, killing his wife and seriously injuring her niece.


U Saw Shwe and Ko Soe Min Htwe were detained and charged with complicity in the bombing by the military council.


U Saw Shwe and Ko Soe Min Htwe, who were detained, received the harshest penalties among the detainees in Tanintharyi Region after the military takeover.
