Thai border guard force tightens security on Myanmar border

Mawlamyine, July (12)

The Thai Border Guard Force has stepped up security along the Thai-Myanmar border, monitoring it around the clock after the incursion of a junta jet into Thailand’s airspace, the Myanmar community in Thailand said.

In late June, a military council’s fighter jet entered Thai airspace during a battle near Ukarithtta camp in Karen State’s Myawaddy township.

The Thai Border Guard Force has since expanded its security forces along the nearly 500-kilometer-long Myanmar-Thailand border and deployed two fighter jets to conduct air patrols.

Now, Thai border guard force is patrolling along the border and deploying at least 500 fully-armed troops.

The Thai Prime Minister, Prayut Chan-o-cha, has been criticized by parliamentarians for saying the incursion into Thai airspace of a Myanmar jet is not a big deal. Since then, the Thai Border Guard has tightened its security along the border.

The social workers said the Thai border guard force has tightened security along the border, making it difficult to provide assistance to Myanmar refugees.
