Belin, August (4)
The commander of the military unit stationed in Wintapan village of Mon State’s Belin Township threatened to fire heavy weapons into the village if the Karen National Union (KNU) attacked its base, the KNU’s Thaton District reported on August 3.
According to a resident of Wintapan village, all the villagers are prepared to leave due to the junta’s threat.
The threat came after the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) attacked the military council’s Wintapan camp on July 31.
The military unit stationed at Wintapan village was from No.401 Light Infantry Battalion under the 8th Military Operations Command (Painnetaw), the KNU’s Brigade 1, Thaton District.
The clashes erupted near Lay Kay and Wintapan villages when the Karen National Defense Organization (KNDO) warned the junta to permanently withdraw from two camps—Lay Kay and Wintapan.
