Nyaunglaybin, August (14)
The KNU announced that the regime forces are firing heavy weapons into the villages and the locals are fleeing again in the Karen National Union (KNU)-controlled area in Mone Township, Nyaunglaybin District.
On August 11, the junta troops fired 15 rounds of heavy weapons into Thinchaseik, Nokhohtan, Kyweluudin and Awtagaw villages in Moan Township, and on August 10, they fired another 8 rounds of mortar shells around Ngalauktat, Naugngone and Kyweluudin villagers.
Meanwhile, the regime troops stationed in the villages of Yan Myo Aung and Naunggone fired eight heavy weapons towards the highway, causing the people of nearby villages to flee to other villages in fear.
A member of the local Karen social affairs said that due to the constant attacks on the villages by the military council army, the displaced people who had already returned to their homes are fleeing again, and most of them are facing health problems due to inadequate shelter.
During the recent clashes between the two sides in Nyaunglaybin District, more than 50 civilians were reportedly detained by the junta, and some were released, but others were still missing.
Nearly 20,000 residents are fleeing due to the fighting between the junta armed forces and the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) in Nyaunglaybin District, which is the territory of the Karen National Union (KNU).
