The military council has been conducting nightly inspections of overnight guests and a series of arrests for no reason in Tanintharyi Region’s Dawei since the end of August, the residents told Than Lwin Times.
The administrative officials and regime forces have been checking overnight guest registration in the wards such as Sanchi, Ponekyun, Ottharyan, Myaungpale, Talaima, Talaihtein, Thinbawseik in Dawei.
Residents claim that the military council has detained people on charges for staying overnight without reporting to local authorities, watching political news, and having political content on their phones.
It is reported that the regime members were swearing and shooting in the street while inspecting the overnight guest list.
In recent days, the military council has arrested at least 30 locals after checking the guest list. Some of them paid money and were released on bail, but most of them have not been released yet.
According to locals, the military council is demanding Ks 10 lakhs to 50 lakhs for each person released on bond.
At least 1,000 people were detained in the Tanintharyi Region following the military takeover, and the junta has sentenced roughly 500 of them to prison.
