Nay Pyi Taw, September (27)
According to locals, the military council in Nay Pyi Taw has recently erected security bunkers at key locations, the ring road, and in the vicinity of hotel zone. Security forces have also been deployed using guerilla tactics in areas where there has been security concerns.
The sandbags have been built up near Dekkhina traffic light (Gangaw roundabout), adjacent to Yang Aung Myin village, and Tungpuri Hotel at the entrance to Nay Pyi Taw.
New sandbag bunkers have been placed near the Shwe Nan Daw Hotel and Shwe Nathar Roundabout at the corner of Yazathingaha Road and Shwe Kyarpin Road, the sources said.
Since the beginning of September, the military council in Nay Pyi Taw has beefed up security and constructed more sandbag bunkers that can accommodate five people near the government buildings and in central locations.
On the other hand, the entrance to Yazathingaha Residence (1), where the military council’s high-ranking administrative officials live, is closed, while ordinary people are allowed to pass through the side of the normal residence.
Restaurants on Ayeyarwaddy Road, Nay Pyi Taw’s busiest road, close at roughly 11:00 pm due to the curfew, and security gates check pedestrians after 12:00 pm.
There is speculation among locals that the security preparations in Nay Pyi Taw may be related to regime spokesperson General Zaw Min Tun’s implied statement at the press conference that the election will be held.
