Tanintharyi Region Chief Minister U Myint Maung, who was sentenced to 11 years in prison, has been handed two more charges under Article 130 (a) of the Penal Code by the Military Council., the sources close to the matter told Than Lwin Times.
Chief Minister U Myint Maung was charged by the Military Council with two more cases under Section 130 (a) of the Penal Code for violating the electoral law and using religion to incite people to vote.
According to a source close to the prison, the two cases against the Chief Minister were added in the final week of November, and the hearing will start in early December.
If Chief Minister U Myint Maung is found guilty under Article 130 (a), he could face up to three years in prison or a fine, or both.
Following the military takeover, Chief Minister U Myint Maung was charged under Sections 505(b) of the Penal Code, Section 25 of the Disaster Management Law, and Section 409 of the Penal Code and received an 11-year prison sentence.
The authorities last month placed U Myint Maung in solitary confinement for allegedly inciting a riot in a prison.
