Myawaddy, November (30)

The military junta claimed on November 28 it has assumed control over the route of Myawaddy-Walley including Thay Baw Boe area in KNU Brigade 6.

The regime’s air force and army used various military weapons to attack the KNU-controlled areas of Phalu, Kyaukkhet, Thay Baw Boe, and Myawaddy-Walley.

At present, the junta said it had control of the area, and was encouraging the local people who have fled to return to their villages.

Than Lwin Times couldn’t reach the spokespersons of the Karen National Union (KNU) and the Cobra column for comment regarding the statement that the junta forces have regained control of the Myawaddy-Walley route, including Thay Baw Boe camp, and the area is now stable and peaceful.

The Cobra column’s spokesperson recently stated on social media that the Thay Baw Boe camp had not fallen, but that the joint forces had retreated due to the military situation, and that the regime forces were still unable to control it.

In May, the KNLA joint forces captured the junta’s Thay Baw Boe camp in Brigade 6, and the Military Council used excessive force to recapture that camp and regain control of the Myawaddy-Walley route and continued offensive attacks until the end of November.

Hundreds of soldiers, including the military council’s strategic commander, were killed, and many more were injured during the nearly 6-month operation.
