At least 14 houses destroyed by junta’s artillery shells in Kawkayeik

The military regime fired artillery shells on the villages of Kawkayeik Township under KNU Brigade 6 of Dooplayar District, at least 14 homes were destroyed and one person was injured, the KNU reported.

On December 1, four mortar shells were launched into Bawdai village by the Kawkayeik-based artillery unit, demolishing a house and injuring Maung Aye Zaw, 26, in the head.

Moreover, on December 2, another shell fired by the same artillery unit exploded in Bawdai village, damaging eight houses, four cows, a threshing machine, and a car.

Shells fired from the Yaekyawgyi base in Kawkayeik exploded again in Pha Yek Village on the same day, damaging two local homes.

A large weapon shell fired by the regime forces exploded in Kyuntaw village of Taungkyarin village tract on December 3, killing one cow on the spot, injuring two bulls, and destroying two homes.

At present, the residents of Taungkyarin and Laungkai villages in Kawkayeik Township are fleeing to nearby relatives’ homes and safe places due to the junta’s mortar shelling, the KNU reported.
