Junta troops burn Kawt Nwe village in Kawkayeik clash

On December 27, fighting between regime troops and KNLA joint forces intensified in KNU-controlled Brigade 6 area, torching one village, residents and resistance forces told Than Lwin Times.

The junta troops invaded Kawt Nwe and Ywar Thit villages in southern Kawkayeik on December 27 and clashed with the Joint Revolutionary Forces led by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA).

On December 27, the fighting erupted around 8 am, and the junta army launched airstrikes and artillery shelling twice: at 11:30 am and 1 pm.

The 2nd Battalion of the White Tiger reported that the military council’s massive infantry unit attacked civilians and destroyed homes while marching in mass with aerial assaults.

Meanwhile, the regime troops stormed and torched Kawt New village around 12:15 on December 27 and the extent of the arson attack is being investigated.

The recent Kawkayeik battle forced about 2000 residents to flee, and they require immediate assistance.

If the military council continues to launch such offensives, there will be more conflict, the PDF joint force said.
