Two civilians were killed and one other injured in an artillery attack by the junta in Kayaway Seik village in Mon State’s Belin Township, a PDF official told Than Lwin Times.
The joint force of Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the People’s Defense Force (PDF) attacked the junta checkpoint at Than Bridge near Thabyayni village in Belin on March 20.
After that, the Belin-based 310th artillery unit and the regime forces at Than Bridge checkpoint fired five mortar rounds into Karaway Seik village around 7 pm.
It is reported that 54-year-old U Kalar from Karaway Siek village was killed on the spot by the military council’s artillery shelling, and 34-year-old Ko Aung Lwin also bled to death on the way to the hospital.
U Kula’s wife, Daw Po, was injured by shrapnel on her forehead and is being treated at Beilin Township Public Hospital.
In retaliation for the military council’s targeted attacks on civilians and villages, the junta army’s battalions and camps will be attacked, said Ko Aye Min Tun, PDF officer in Thaton District.
Karaway Seik village is a village where the majority of the Karen people live, and it is included in the control area of the KNU Brigade 1, Thaton District.
On March 18, 5-year-old Maung Phoe Thingyan was shot and killed by the junta army’s indiscriminate shelling into Ah Wun Gyi village in Belin Township when there was no fighting.
