According to the Burmese Women’s Union, 29 women were killed and 58 were arrested in March alone across the country.
The dead included 17 people from the anti-regime stronghold Sagaing Region, four from Chin State, three from Magway Region, two from Mon State, and one each from Shan State and Karen State.
Among those arrested were 24 from Sagaing Region, 10 from Tanintharyi Region, eight from Yangon Region, four from Ayeyarwaddy Region, three each from Kachin State and Magway Region, and two each from Shan State, Mandalay Region, and Bago Region.
According to the statement, more than 460 women have died and more than 3,000 women are currently in custody in Myanmar since the military took power until March 31 of this year.
The Burmese Women’s Union said that the data is based on information from independent media outlets and organizations, and the figure on the ground may be much higher.
The Assistance Association for the Political Prisoners (AAPP) reported on April 7 that more than 3,200 civilians have been killed in more than two years since the military coup.
