Thaton, April (9)
The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) joint forces launched an attack on Light Infantry Battalion 9 in Wi Yaw village in Mon State’s Thaton Township, the sources from KNU-Thaton told Than Lwin Times.
The combined forces of the KNLA fired at least three mortar shells at LIB 9 on the morning of April 7.
The attack may have caused casualties on the junta side, but the KNLA said it was still investigating the details of the situation on the ground.
After being attacked, the regime troops retaliated by firing at least 10 mortar shells towards the villages of Wi Yaw, Chaung Saung, Mi Gyaung Ai, and Mayangon.
The junta army has been firing artillery shells constantly, which has caused the locals to run to the forests and other safe places.
The Thaton-based LIB 9 has been targeted at least four times since the military coup, and soldiers have been injured or killed.
