Belin, June (1)
The combined forces of Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) have launched an attack on a junta checkpoint, the chairman of KNU’s Allied Oversight Committee told Than Lwin Times.
The KNLA and the Thuria column attacked the Than Bridge checkpoint, where more than 20 soldiers were stationed, at 6:00 a.m. on May 31.
The two sides exchanged fire for almost half an hour, with both sides suffering injuries.
At least two junta soldiers were injured during the exchange of fire, while two members of the resistance forces sustained minor injuries.
The fighting caused hundreds of passenger vehicles to get stuck on the Belin and Kyaikto of the Yangon-Mawlamyine road, but the road was reopened at around 8 a.m.
After the military coup, regime troops were stationed at Belin’s Than Bridge checkpoint, which was often attacked by KNLA joint forces.
