Over 100 women were arrested and killed in the three months from March to May of this year under the military regime, according to the statement of Burmese Women’s Union (BWU).
In May, 29 women were killed, 14 of whom were burned alive during junta raids on their homes, said the statement.
A total of 103 women were killed in three months: 29 in March, 45 in April, and 29 in May.
Women are being killed by junta airstrikes, burned alive, shot, and hit with heavy weapons.
Women’s rights activist Daw Khin Nyein Thit said that even if women are not allowed to speak out about the killings now, it is necessary to keep as many records as possible to try to seek justice in the future.
During the two years of the military takeover, 542 women were killed and 3,517 were jailed, according to figures from the Burmese Women’s Union (BWU).
According to the Burmese Women’s Union (BWU), 859 women have received sentences.
