Tanintharyi, June 8
At least 10 soldiers were killed when Tanintharyi PDF launched a surprise attack on a junta camp stationed at a monastery in Tanintharyi’ Chuang Nyi Ko village, members of the PDF told Than Lwin Times.
The military camp with nearly 40 soldiers was suddenly attacked by the columns of the PDF alliance at around 2:00 p.m. on June 6.
The regime troops suffered heavy losses in an hour-long battle.
A member of the PDF alliance said that 10 soldiers were killed and two PDF comrades suffered minor injuries in the battle.
The fighting has forced thousands of local residents to flee to safety from the villages of Chaung Nyi Ko, Banlamut, Nyaung Pin Kon, and Yang Phoe.
The junta army, which had been unexpectedly attacked, remained stationed at the monastery until the morning of June 7, continuing to fire heavy weapons at the villages, which led to military tension between the two sides.
The surprise attack was reported to have been carried out jointly by the Peacock Special Column, KTLA-TCJF, Tanintharyi-Yoma Joint Force, Non-aligned Guerrilla Group, and Southern Warriors Defense Force (SWDF).
The allied revolutionary forces and the junta forces frequently engage in battle in Tanintharyi Township, where martial law has been imposed, and the military council is forced to relinquish some territory.
