There have been nearly 400 dengue cases reported and one child died in Mon State from January to the third week of June this year, according to the military council’s state health department.
Dengue fever cases have increased dramatically between May and June, with over 300 cases occurring in just two months.
There are 97 cases in Mawlamyaing, 85 cases in Panugn, 56 cases in Kyaikmaraw, 39 cases in Chaungson, and 38 cases in Ye Township. The rest of the townships have 10 or more cases of dengue fever.
A child from Ah Hlat Village, Poon Township who was infected with dengue died because he did not get medical treatment in time.
Doctors say dengue cases may rise again this month, and people are urged to be extra careful if children are sick and to go to a hospital or clinic if they are sick for more than three days.
The Aedes mosquito that causes dengue fever breeds in water, and doctors have instructed that
water containers around the houses should be covered, emptied, replaced, and filtered as a
preventive measure.
In Mon State, there were over 2,000 dengue cases in 2022, and one child died, according to
data of the State Public Health Department of the military council.
