Yangon, 29
Myanmar junta’s court sentence passed a verdict of additional four-year-imprisonment to a female student leader of Dagon University on 27 June.
Wut Yi Aung will have to serve a total of seven years in prison after she was sentenced to three years on 10 March last year under the Section 505 (a).
She is now under serious health condition in Insein prison as she suffered brutal torture at the military’s interrogation center and the lack of health care.
She was one of the six students from Dagaon university, who were arrested in Kyauktada township, Yangon, on 14 September 2021, and they were charged with Penal Code sections 505 (a) and 52 (a).
“She has been paralyzed by a stroke in the prison. Her head was injured by torture at the interrogation center. She loses consciousness every 15 minutes, and needs a supply of oxygen,” said a member of Dagon University Student Union to Than Lwin Times.
The military is torturing Dagon University students in various ways while they are under arrest. Among them, death penalty has been handed down to Thiha Htet Zaw, Thura Maung Maung, Hein Htet, Khant Zin Win, Zaw Linn Naing, Thet Paing Oo and Khant Linn Maung Maung.
Thousands of student are included in more than 20,000 civilians arrestees of the military after coup.
