Real vs. Fake News

Mingalabar! Welcome to Than Lwin Times’ Real vs. Fake News program.

This program checks for fake news and misinformation about revolution events on social media after the military takeover.

Today, we will verify the news spread by pro-junta fake accounts saying, “On the night of July 4, guerrilla members in Yangon did not dare to face the army and blew bombs in civilian areas that were not military targets”.

This fake news has been spread by military lobbyists Kyaw Swar and Han Nyein Oo since July 4.

The Than Lwin Times investigated the post and photos shared by military supporters and

discovered them to be false.

On the night of July 4, 2023, members of the Yangon Guerrilla Forces struck two military outposts, three departments, and one checkpoint in Yangon.

All Yangon UGs cautioned the people to stay away from military camps before conducting the operation in Yangon City.

The Guerrilla Forces launched attacks on a police station near a bus stop in No. 3 Ward on Yangon-Nyaungdon Road, east of Hlaing Thar Yar; a military checkpoint on Tabin Shwe Htee road between Bogyoke Kyayywar and Aung Chan Thar ward in Thanlyn; the office of information and public relations on Shwe Gon Daing road in Bahan Township; the immigration office and Department of Copyright and Registration on Wingabar Street, No. 1 Bocho Ward, Bahan Township; and the court on Thitsar Street, No. 10 Ward in South Okkalarpa Township between 8 pm and midnight on July 4.

Led by Anonymous Fighters Force (AFF), Freeland Attack Force (FLA), Phoenix Urban Guerrilla Force, Emerald Girls Army (EGA) and Rangoon Urban Force conducted explosions and reported that they were able to retreat safely.
