Last week, 13 junta troops were killed in a confrontation between two warring rivals in Shwe Kyin Township, Nyaunlaybin District, according to KNU’s statement released on July 21.
Nine clashes broke out between the combined force of the junta army and the allied Pyi Saw Htee militia group and the joint force of KNLA Battalion 7 and resistance forces from July 14 to 19 in Shwe Kyin.
No casualties were reported on the KNLA side, but the junta army lost 13 soldiers and 11 others were wounded, said the statement.
The military council’s Light Infantry Battalion 20 and Infantry Battalion 264 launched 38 mortar shells into Kaukmethu, Choninn and Kwintalar villages, and three houses in Kaukmethua and Kwintalar villages were burned to ashes, according to the statement.
Meanwhile, the Light Infantry Battalion 20 set fire to a house in Pazunmyaung village and stormed the house of a local resident in Kaukmethu village, according to the KNU.
A total of over 14,000 people from 16 villages are forcibly displaced due to the military and political conflict in Shwe Kyin Township and are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, said KNU.
