Yangon, August (2)

Prime Minister of the National Unity Government (NUG) Mahn Win Khaing Than has said that even if public leader Aung San Suu Kyi was released from the unjustly detention, their government will keep on fighting against the military together with Myanmar people.

The NUG and the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) held a special meeting on the current political situation at 4:00 p.m. on 31July.
At the meeting, the prime minister said, “A federal democratic union cannot be established as long as the 2008 Constitution is in effect, and that people need to work together to remove the military regime.”

He also added that NUG’s policy would not be changed if Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was released, and they would pay attention to the expectation of people.

At that meeting, NUG’s Acting President Duwah La Shila said that the main thing is the total eradication of the military dictatorship and the establishment of a federal union, and that it is important not to fall into the trap of the military regime.

The military council organized meetings between the detained ousted civilian leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and some high-ranking officials in the second week and late July, and she has been moved to the house arrest.

According to political observers, the military council is engaged in battles for the past two and a half years since the coup and is attempting to exploit Daw Aung San Suu Kyi as they are experiencing decline in both in politics and diplomatic roles.
