Three children had died of dengue fever in seven months from January to July this year in Mon State, according to the military council’s Department of Public Health and Medical Services.
Nearly 1,200 dengue cases have been reported in Mon State, with Mawlamyine and Paung Townships having the highest cases, 239 and 188, respectively.
Dengue fever claimed the lives of three children, and they are from Paung, Thanbyuzayet, and Kyaikto Townships.
In June and July, the number of cases was on the rise, and children were infected in clusters in certain villages and neighborhoods.
Than Lwin Times has learned that the number of cases has gone up due to the lack of preventive measures under the military regime and that hospitals are overloaded.
Because Dengue fever is widespread during this season, doctors have warned parents that if their children get ill, they must take them to the nearest hospital or clinic as soon as possible; otherwise, the disease could be life-threatening for the children.
According to the Public Health Department, there were over 2,000 cases of dengue fever in Mon State in 2022, with one child dead.
