Paung, 14 September
A former member of the local militia was shot dead around 8:00 a.m. on 13 September in Yin Nyein village in Paung Township, Mon State, locals confirmed to Than Lwin Times.
U Kyar Gyi, a 60-year-old former militia member, was riding his motorcycle away from his home in the mountain area of Yin Nyein Taung village when two unknown gunmen opened fire on him.
U Kyar Gyi reportedly received a bullet wound on his right thigh and was transported from the Yin Nyein District Hospital to the Thaton Public Hospital.
According to the local residents, U Kyar Gyi is a person who helps make traffic safe for the children during rush hours in Yin Nyein Taung village.
There are reports that U Kyar Gyi, who is also a member of the reserve fire brigade, is also related to the junta-established village administrative team.
No organization has claimed responsibility for the death of U Kyar Gyi or the reason for his death.
At least 15 detainees from Ottan Tar village in Paung Township are under interrogation after surveillance police officer Ko Ko Lwin from Paung police station was shot dead on 3 September, according to local residents.
