Paung, 15 September

Military regime has been detaining 12 locals from Paung Township in Mon State  for a week without notifying their family members, said locals.                                      

On 6 September, 15 local individuals were arrested after the convoy entered the village of Ottan Tar, where police were frequently attacked.

The military council released three of the 15 arrestees the next day but kept the remaining people in custody.

A source close to the matter said that the family members requested the military council and the police to allow them to meet the detainees, but the military council refused and did not tell them where they were being held.

The family members are worried about the safety and lives of the detainees.

According to people close to the military council, those 12 detainees were taken to the Zinkyaik police station and interrogation center.

Five police officers have been assassinated in Paung Township in the last two months, and the Township General Administration Department and police station have been targeted at least three times.
