At least five locals have been arrested following the fatal shooting of retired Lt. Col. U Aung Lwin’s family in Taung Thu Su Ward, Kyaikto Township of Mon State, local residents confirmed to Than Lwin Times.
On September 8, the family of retired military officer U Aung Lwin was gunned down in front of his home by two unknown gunmen on a motorcycle.
After the incident, the regime forces arrested people suspected of being associated with the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) in the neighborhoods, including Kyaik Pi Village.
Residents said that among those arrested were a total of five civilians, including Ko Bala, a taxi driver from Kaw San Nai Ward; Kaw San Nai, a married couple from Kyaikto Station Road, and two men from the North Ward.
According to people close to the military council, the detainees were taken to the Kyaikto police station and interrogation center by the military council.
U Aung Lwin’s wife, Daw Sanda Soe, was killed, and his seven-year-old son, Maung Aung Nyein Man, received a bullet wound in the assassination.
Following the coup, at least 50 local residents were detained in a series of arrests by the military council in Kyaikto, and more than 30 of them were sentenced to prison terms, according to local residents.
