The military council is checking whether the grocery stores and shops in Mon state sell military products and is forcing them to put the items on sale, said shopkeepers and locals.
In recent days, the joint team of departmental officials escorted by soldiers and policemen has been checking whether military products are being sold in grocery stores in some towns and villages in Mon State’s Ye and Thanbyuzayet Townships.
The military council has threatened to close shops that do not sell army products, including Myanmar beer, Andaman Gold, Dagon, Black Shield, and Army Rum, as well as alcohol, beer, and soft drinks, as well as Red Ruby and Premiun Gold cigarettes.
A vendor in Belin said, “I heard that the military personnel will come to check whether their products are sold or not at our shops. Some shops that don’t sell their military products may be forced to shut their doors”.
Since the people boycotted military products following the coup, the military council had a coordination meeting on September 11 and ordered a nationwide inspection to see if stores were selling military products.
According to sources, the junta’s Minister of Home Affairs, Lt. Gen. Yar Pyae, himself ordered to ensure the sale of military products, alcohol, beer, and other items in shopping malls, supermarkets, stores, and shops across the country, including Nay Pyi Taw.
U Nay Phone Lat, the spokesperson of the NUG Prime Minister’s office, told Than Lwin Times that “the campaign to cut the bloody money caused enough panic among military officials to force shops to sell their products”.
He added that “we can say that the public’s “Cut Fascist Income and Build Public Funds” campaign was quite successful. Following the first two months of the campaign, the second stage will focus on boycotting military products that generate revenue for the terrorist army”.
Activists urged people not to buy military-linked products during the ground strike campaign that started in August with the slogan “Cut Fascist Income and Build Public Funds”.
The armed resistance forces have issued a statement not to sell military products such as alcohol, beer, and tobacco in shops in the relevant area, and if found, they will confiscate and destroy them.
