Kawkayeik, 29 September

The immigration office situated in No. 7 Ward in Karen State’s Kawkayeik Township was burned down on September 27, locals told Than Lwin Times.

A group of people threw gasoline on the immigration office and set it on fire the day before yesterday around 11:00 p.m. when the staff were not present there.

Almost the entire building was destroyed by fire, and the furniture in the office was burned to ashes.

It was reported that the fire brigade was able to completely extinguish the fire only around 1 a.m.

According to people close to the military council, the immigration office was temporarily opened at Dawna Hall in Kawkayeik Township due to the security situation, so the employees were not harmed and important documents were not damaged.

In Kawkayeik Township, the military council’s administrative authority is limited, and because of the security situation, the junta has abandoned the majority of the departmental offices.
