Ye, November 1
Questions have been raised about whether the ongoing Operation 1027 of the Three Brotherhood Alliance will have an impact on the southern part of Myanmar.
The Operation 1027 is currently spreading not only to northern Shan State but also to Sagaing Region and Kachin State, which are controlled by the powerful ethnic armed organization, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA).
A military observer said, “As a result of Operation 1027, while the military council is deploying troops to the front line, the coalition forces may take advantage of this and launch a large-scale offensive in the south of the country. There could be massive offensives between the joint forces and junta army in Kyaikto, Belin, southern Mon State, Ye, Dawei and Tanintharyi.
The revolutionary groups active in Mon State, Karen State, and Tanintharyi in the southern part of the country have warned local people not to unnecessary travel since the fighting will intensify in the coming open season since before the start of Operation 1027.
On the day Operation 1027 was announced, revolutionary groups were seizing camps throughout northern Shan State, fierce fighting took place between the resistance forces and the military council in the southern Karen state’s Kawkayeik.
At least three junta-based offices, including the military council’s police investigation department and the office of military security affairs, have been seized and destroyed by revolutionary groups.
Meanwhile, the junta army clashed with resistance fighters in Tanintharyi Region’s Yebyu and Thayetchaung Townships.
Padoh Saw Tawnee, the spokesperson of the Karen National Union, KNU, which is made up of seven brigades that can control many regions, told Than Lwin Times that Operation 1027 had a significant impact on the southern part of the country. In addition, he pointed out that only if administrative activities could be implemented could the areas be kept stable.
Operation 1027, which has the support of the people who oppose the military dictatorship and anti-regime forces, is a simultaneous attack on the junta army by northern ethnic armed groups and the PDFs.
According to military observers and communities, Operation 1027 was the most devastating attack on the junta army in Myanmar’s modern history since 1988.
“Since the coup, lower-ranking soldiers and young officers have been sacrificed, and there are many battles ahead, so we believe there may be upheaval within the army,” CDM Capt. Ze Thu Aung from the Air Force said.
During the nearly three years of the coup, the Three Brotherhood Alliance—the Arakan Army (AA), the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA)—and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), the Chin National Front (CNF), the All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF), the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), and the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) have been engaged with the junta army in Northern Shan, Kachin, Chin, and Karenni States and upper Myanmar.
The KNU’s KNLA forces, the PDFs of the NUG’s Ministry of Defense and the local resistance fighters are fighting against regime troops to eradicate the military dictatorship in the southern part of the country,
Nai Han Thar, chairman of the New Mon State Party (NMSP) , among the ethnic armed organizations that control territory in the Mon, Karen and Tanintharyi regions, said that if all the EAOs attack the military council, they will join.
