The junta army has increased its military presence to recapture the Chaungkhakhwa area in Mon State’s Kyaikmaraw Township and to prevent the fighting from spreading to Mawlamyine, said local sources.
On November 13, the revolutionary forces occupied the Chaunghnakhwa bridge checkpoint, which serves as the main transportation route for Mon and Karen states and a strategic area for military council.
After the loss of the Chaungkhnkhwa checkpoint, the junta troops use heavy weapons and airstrikes to atack the villages of Chaunghnakhwa every day in order to recapture the camp, resulting in the deaths of civilians and damage to residential buildings.
Meanwhile, the revolutionary forces surrounded and attacked the military council’s advanced ground forces, killing many soldiers and forcing others to surrender.
On November 26, a large number of military forces arrived in Taungkalay, Kadar, and Phanon villages, near the Chaunghnakhwa area, where the police station and border guard outposts are located.
Among these groups, there are more than 400 troops, including soldiers from Sagaing Region, medics, support units, and artillery units.
According to locals, the forces were stationed in Kadar, Taungkalay, U-lay, Yemon, Kyantaw, and Phanon villages, with at least three artilleries equipped in Kadar village.
The soldiers have ordered that no one approach their outposts and that anyone leaving the village report where they are going and when they will come back.
At the moment, regime forces are firing daily from artillery units in Taungkalay, Kadar, and Mudon on villages that are not military targets. Tens of thousands of local residents from at least six villages have fled and are in need of assistance.
