Kawkayeik, 13 December 13
Fighting has been raging between the junta army and resistance fighters in Karen State’s Kawkayeik Township, with the rescue teams evacuating the trapped people in the town.
The Kawkayeik battle, which started on December 1, continued until the morning of December 12 around Chuang Taung near Asian Road; the details of the situation are yet to known, said locals.
On December 11, the spokesperson of the military regime said that a battle was going on at the Kawkayeik-Kyondoe road intersection near Kawkayeik, Karen State.
The rescue workers are also helping and evacuating the trapped local people.
Both sides suffered casualties in the two-week-long Kawkayeik battle, and the resistance forces took control of a junta base.
The junta air force conducted a series of air strikes on Kawkayeik, destroying hundreds of houses and killing at least 10 civilians.
All the residents in town have fled their homes because of the fighting, and more than 200,000 people need urgent assistance.
