Belin, 27 December

Nearly 1,500 local residents have fled their homes due to the resistance forces’ raid on junta outpost near Wintarpan village in Mon State’s Belin Township, according to the statement of KNU-Thaton District.

The resistance joint forces including the Karen National DefenceOrganisation (KNDO) launched an attack on Wintarpan military outpost under the command of No. 410 Light Infantry Battalion from 13 to 25 December.

The regime troops pounded the village in nearly two-week battle, forcing 1,468 people in upper Wintarpan and WintarpanYwar Gyi to flee their homes.

As the days go by, the displaced people are in need of food, blankets, shelter and medicine, the KNU-Thaton District told Than Lwin Times.

At the moment, the IDPs are hiding in the jungle and living in safe areas, like the village monastery, and the KNU provides assistance, but it is enough.

Neither the KNU nor the military council has released anything about the casualties on both sides in the attack on Winterpan outpost.

On 24 December, two children were killed and four others were injured due to junta’s reckless shooting after the military convoy hit the landmines near Thabyayni village in Belin, said locals.
