Nay Pyi Taw, June (2)
This academic year, more than 310,000 children enrolled in basic education schools in Mon State, a spokesperson for the military council, Gen. Zaw Min Tun, said at the military council’s 15th press conference in Nay Pyi Taw on June 1.
More than 310,000 students enrolled in Mon State from May 26 to May 31, up from more than 70,000 the previous academic year, he said.
There are 5 200 000 students enrolled across the country, with Ayeyarwady Region having the biggest enrollment with about 910,000 students.
Enrollment has declined dramatically in the states of Sagaing and Chin, where violence has intensified.
According to the military council, it is aiming to ensure that school-aged children finish their education from kindergarten through high school. Students would be able to continue their education at appropriate trade schools only after completing secondary school, and they would be eligible to continue their further education if they met the requisite criteria, according to the military council.
