The military has forced police members to the frontlines. Under the pretext of national security, the police members get dressed in military uniforms in the battle grounds.
This interview with Aye Min Tun, officer of Thathon district PDF, who has joined civil disobedient movement, is about ongoing situations in police force, root causes for defection of police members, oppression of military council and loss of law enforcement.
TLT: Could you talk about the defection of police members over the past two and half years after coup in Myanmar? How about the situation in Mon state?
Aye Min Tun: The number of police defection and their civil disobedient movement have grown. They have no more endurance to pressure of miliary.
TLT: It was learnt that police members were transformed into soldiers as the military is losing its forces in battles across the country. Why has this situation worsened?
Aye Min Tun: Of course. The military is losing its forces, including defection and civil disobedient movement. The fatality is increasing in the battle grounds. Police members were substituted for soldiers. Pyusawhtee members, who are mostly former prison inmates of criminal cases. Fire services personnel were recruited for battles.
TLT: Police stations were frequently attacked in Mon state. And that the military has pressured on police, with transferring and assigning them for security duties in Sagaing, Magway and Karenni. Could you explain the situations.
Aye Min Tun: The military put pressure on police for being attacked the stations. Police officers were transferred to the crisis areas once in three years. Objective of police force is to protect people, not for battle ground. Police are required for public security and preventing crimes. Police need to be familiar with new areas, and it takes time for them.
TLT: As more police have joined civil disobedient movement, what is the consequences and how about the rule of law at present?
Aye Min Tun: Public security has declined due to CDM of police. Inmates of criminals were released with amnesty. The military council released them intentionally to destabilize the country. Criminal rate has increased.
TLT: Could you share any updated information about police force?
Aye Min Tun: Actually, police are more responsible for public security. They should not be used in battles. Military and police have different duties. However, the military has interfered in policing, departmental works and every sector, although they have no enough capacity. Transfer of military officers to civil services sector has caused dysfunction in the organizational systems.
