A police surveillance officer from Thanbyuzayet township’s police station in Mon state defected with arms and ammunitions to the Taungnyo column of people’s defence force on 2 October, according to the news statement from the Office of Deputy Sub-Military Commanding Officer under the Southern Joint Operation Command in No. Sub-Military Command.
The police corporal, identified as Tun Tun Lin, said that he has joined the resistance force because he could not bear repression of senior officers and brutal acts of their forces to the public.
He brought one Gloc.38 mm gun, five bullets of .35, one bulletproof vest, one grenade, one intercom, one police cap, one knife, two mobile phones and one handcuffs, and he was awarded 20,000 baht.
A total of 15,000 police and soldiers have defected to the resistance forces after the coup, according to the news release of NUG.
