Mawlamyin, 19 November
Security has been tightened in Mawlamyine after the attack on the military council’s Southeastern Command based in Mawlamyine, locals told Than Lwin Times.
On the evening of November 16, revolutionary forces attacked the Southeastern Command, which was celebrating its 62nd anniversary, with a drone, and then the junta army launched its retaliatory attacks using heavy weapons and small arms.
“The military council has been conducting a series of blockades and searches in some neighborhoods and villages. This morning, two military vehicles searched the village of Thway Thouk, where the PDFs were believed to be hiding.
And they also checked overnight guests in Daiwun, Shwe Myaing Thiri, and Zeyar Thiri neighborhoods”, said a Mawlamyine resident.
It is reported that tightened security and stricter checks by the regime troops in the city have made it difficult for local residents to move around, and there have been arrests and checks at night, raising concerns among local residents. Meanwhile, the regime forces and policemen, some in plain clothes, are patrolling in civilian cars.
The military council is constantly monitoring people’s movements through CCTVs installed in the city and is conducting searches with massive forces.
However, frequent robberies and thefts of motorcycles, as well as house burglaries, occur in Mawlamyine, and residents reported feeling lack of security.
