Bokepyin, 26 December
A man was killed and another injured after being trampled by a wild elephant in Bokepyin Township, Tanintharyi Region, according to locals and social rescue team.
Ko Kyaw Lwin, 38, was critically injured in the accident on an oil palm farm in Chaung Mon Ngar Village, Bokepyin Township, on December 22.
Kyaw Lwin, an oil palm farm worker from Myinkakwin village in Ayeyarwaddy Region’s Myaunmya Township, died while being transferred from Myeik Hospital to Yangon Hospital after being trampled by an elephant, a rescue worker told Than Lwin Times.
On December 24, 37-year-old Ko Nay Lin, a road construction worker from Pan Phon Chuang Village, Bo Kyong Township, was injured when a wild elephant ran over him on the road while returning home from work.
After suffering injuries to his chest and thighs, Ko Nay Lin is being treated at No. 18 100-bedded army hospital in Bokyepyin.
In August, a local woman from War Chaung Village, Bokepyin Township was trampled to death by a wild elephant, according to local residents.
Wild elephants are often seen in the villages of Chaung Mon, War Din and War Chaung in Bokepyin Township, and they often enter oil palm plantations and eat plant shoots, destroying plantations and homes and threatening people’s lives.
