The Karen National Union (KNU) reported that two local men who returned home were arrested, tortured, and killed by the military council in Mone Township, Nyaunglaybin District.
On August 17, two local citizens were taken into custody, tortured, and then killed by the No. 603 Light Infantry Battalion of the military council, which was stationed in the Kyunpinseik hamlet in Mone Township. They were a 50-year-old man from the village of Sabu Taung and a 45-year-old one from the village of Maeme.
KNU said that the two local men were arrested by the military council when they were visiting the village to look after their livestock on August 15, and were tortured and beaten before being killed.
The military troops, who are conducting operations in KNU’s Brigade 3 (Nyaunglaybin District), are frequently arresting and killing the local residents. Nearly 20 civilians have been killed due to the junta army’s arrest, mortar shelling, and airstrikes.
According to KNU, there are more than 60,000 IDPs fleeing the conflict in the 3rd Brigade of Nyaunglaybin District, and these IDPs are urgently in need of humanitarian relief.
