Mawlamyine, February (23)
The Military Council announced that starting February 24, citizens can apply for passports through a new online booking system.
The system will only be used at the passport issuing office in Yangon, while the rest of the regions and states must follow the old system, the statement said.
The application fee must be paid immediately according to the prescribed fee, and those who have difficulty applying online can seek help from the relevant township police stations.
Those whose passport applications were suspended have been waiting for this moment, but there are concerns that, due to some limitations, it could become a source of exploitation for the police and brokers.
The Military Council said in a statement that the applicants should not take help from brokers as they plan to make it easy for anyone to apply for a passport.
