Mawlamyine, April (21)
The Karen National Defense Organization (KNDO) has issued a three-day withdrawal notice to military soldiers stationed in Lay Kay and Win Ta Pan camps in the region of KNDO’s batallion 2 of KNU Brigade 1, Thaton District.
The military council should withdraw from Lay Kay and Win Ta Pan camps in Belin Township by 6 pm on the 23rd of April. If they do not withdraw, effective military action will be taken, the statement said.
Members of the military council have carried out arrests and killings of ethnic people across the country, torturing, raping married women and children, and burning the properties of civilians, and thus they are not allowed in these areas, said the KNDO’s 2nd Battalion.
In the KNU Brigade 1 area of Thaton District, there have been frequent conflicts between the KNU and the military council, prompting locals to flee the fighting.
