Two local residents were killed and four others were injured by mortar shelling and random shooting by the junta army on the 28 th and 29 th of March in Belin Township and Thathon Township of Mon State, according to the residents and the officials from KNU-Thaton District.
On March 28 th , the No. 24 th Infantry Battalion based in Thaton Township deliberately fired an artillery shell into Kazai Village without any fighting, killing 42-year-old villager U Sein Thaung.
In addition, on March 29, an exchange of fire occurred between the military convoy and the combined force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and PDFs near Ah Lu village in Belin Township.
The military council fired large and small arms into the Ah Lu and Win Pyan villages along the Yangon-Mawlamyine road without any reason.
Locals said that the attack killed 55-year-old Daw Puto from Win Pyan village and injured 45-year-old Daw Khin Lay.
On the same day, three local residents, including an 80-year-old woman from Taungalay village,were injured in a mortar strike fired by the junta troops stationed at Hmyin Thar hill in Belin township, the KNU-Thaton District reported.
It is reported that nearly 40 homes in Belin Township were destroyed by the mortar shelling of junta troops in two days.
The junta army has continuously been firing heavy weapons into the area of KNU Brigade 1,Thaton District on a daily basis, forcing residents to leave their homes.
