Nay Pyi Taw, April (2)
The commander of Southeastern Command as well as the head of Bureau of Special Operations 4, which deals with the KNU’s affairs, were dismissed and assigned to the reserve force, according to the military sources.
Lieutenant General Khin Hlaing of the Bureau of Special Operations 4, which mainly handles operations in Karen State, Mon State, and Tanintharyi Region, has retired and been replaced by General Nyunt Win Swe, the commander of the Yangon Command.
Furthermore, General Myat Thet Oo, the commander of the Southeastern Command, who is primarily in charge of military affairs in Mon and Karen states, has been transferred to the Reserve Force, and Brigadier General Soe Min, the Division Commander of the 11th Light Infantry Division of Yangon Region, has been replaced.
Reshuffling leadership and the assignment of those who will be violent and suppressed at the will of the military leader may lead to more intense military conflicts in the coming months, according to the KNU’s Allied Supervisory Committee-Thaton District.
According to military sources, the reshuffle of the commander of Bureau of Special Operations 4 and commander of Southeastern Command is mainly due to the confiscation of military bases in KNU territory and attacks on Southeastern Command.
The Southeastern Command based in Mawlamyine suffered a drone attack by PDF joint forces on March 16, and some buildings were damaged.
