Fifteen local men arrested by the military, not released until now

Mawlamyine, April (3)

In Taungpyauk District, Thayet Chaung Township in Tanintharyi Region, family members are worried that the fifteen men arrested by the military council were in custody for three days and would not be released until now.

As the military column invaded the Taungpyauk district on March 30, most of the locals fled in advance.

During the evacuation, about 60 local villagers confronted with the military troops and instead of arresting all of them, the junta took fifteen men to use them as human shield.

Family members are worried about the detained men who have not returned home for three days.
Residents said that the military council has taken up positions in some villages in Taungpyauk District, armed with small arms and heavy weapons, and preparing for war.

In Taungpyauk, thousands of local people have been forced to flee their homes due to frequent clashes between the military forces and the local People’s Defense Forces.
