Mawlamyine, April (9 )

The military build-up in Karenni State’s Demoso has resulted in increased tensions and conflict, the local People’s Defense Force (PDF) predicted.

Since the end of March, the military council has increased its force by hundreds in Demoso Township.

Military tensions between the two sides have escalated as military forces have extended their presence and secured security.

“They have reinforced more troops. We’ve made all of the required preparations as well. The guerrillas are also present. The conflict is likely to get worse,” said an official from PDF.

Hundreds of troops have been deployed in the town of Demoso, where there has been no violence since the third week of March.

Furthermore, the military council troops stationed in Demoso are regularly firing artillery shells into the settlements.

Clashes between the military council and local PDF forces in Karenni State has driven over 200,000 people to seek safety in shelters and refugee camps, where food and medication are in limited supply.
