Mawlamyine, April (12)

The Mawlamyine People’s Defense Forces said they planted a mine at a security checkpoint east of the No. 565 military police station in Mawlamyine on April 11 to welcome Thingyan.

The junta troops at the security checkpoints in front of the military police station were attacked by a powerful mine, it was said in the statement.

Two regime members were killed with many others wounded. The wounded were later taken to hospital.

It is reported that the Mawlamyine guerilla group was able to retreat unharmed after the attack.

According to the Mawlamyine PDF, the attack was carried out to greet the ‘No Out, No Water Splashing – Mawlamyine Thingyan campaign’.

The Mawlamyine PDF has appealed to the public not to participate in the traditional Myanmar Thingyan, which takes place from April 12 to 16.
