Hpa-an, May (7)

The officials from KNU Brigade 1 told Than Lwin Times that a local civilian was shot dead by the Border Guard Force (BGF) in Htee Kyaw Khee Village, Hpa-an Township, Karen State.

On May 5, a civilian was killed near Htee Kyaw Khee village as nearly 50 BGF troops marched from Hpa-an Township to the Winta Pan base to reinforce.

Farl Tayote, 41, of Htee Kyaw Khee village, was shot dead while fleeing on a motorcycle in fear of the BGF.

The regime’s BGF has been arresting local civilians and demanding ransom money, and has frequently fired artillery shells into villages in Hpa-an Township, an area controlled by the Karen National Union (KNU) 1st Brigade.

Military tensions between the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and regime troops have risen in Hpa-an Township as a result of the military council’s reinforcements.
