Mawlamyine, May (7)

According to the Interim Administrative Council of Mawlamyine University, the military council has gone from exploiting education to destroying it in order to grab the power.

Since April 18, the dictatorship has been enrolling new students for universities that will open on May 12, and students who had to drop out due to the outbreak are being encouraged to return.

The military council had pushed the reopening of institutions and enabled individuals who did not take the examinations to pass, and intentions to start PhD courses without any preparation were aimed at destroying education, according to an official from Mawlamyine University’s Interim Administrative Council.

“They are destroying education by using it. They also let individuals who did not take the exam pass, and they now want to open up all of the classrooms. They plan to open both distance learning and regular classes, as well as doctoral programs. Academic services are not supplied, and the number of teachers is insufficient,” an official stated.

The military council is currently attempting to reopen PhD programs in a variety of fields, and the education sector might be entirely harmed if the system permits all test takers to pass the exam.

The Mawlamyine University Students’ Union has stated that individuals who attend the military council’s lessons will not be recognized and that action would be taken once the people’s government takes power.

Before the military coup, Mawlamyine University had 17 majors and about 20,000 students enrolled in classes each year.

More than 1,000 students have already enrolled in the military regime’s upcoming institution.
